Virginia Tech '29 · Bahamas National Team
The water does not know your name. It only knows what you put in and take with you. Every early morning, every lap, all the passion — it all belongs to you.
The story →Elyse Wood is currently a D1 swimmer competing for Virginia Tech in the ACC and a member of the Bahamas National Team. She started her athletic journey playing multiple sports that included Basketball, Soccer and Track. Although her love for sports was always evident, her passion and heart always belonged to the pool. She dedicated herself to be a full-time swimmer at 14 and never looked back. She is an athlete representing two worlds simultaneously — American collegiate athletics and Bahamian national swimming — and owns both completely.
As a freshman at Marshall University, Elyse set the school record in the 100 Freestyle (48.82) at AAC Championships. This was just days after finding out the program was cut — she didn't pause or flinch. She showed up with true grit for her Marshall family. As the chapter with Marshall came to an end, a new chapter at Virginia Tech started. She will continue her collegiate career competing for Virginia Tech — one of the premier swim programs in the ACC — with three years of eligibility and everything ahead.
Elyse has had the great privilege of representing the Bahamas on the national stage in 2025. She has competed at the II Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion and the XXXVIII Carifta Aquatic Championships. At the 2025 Bahamas National Championships, she won 7 events, setting 3 personal bests.
E.L.Y. was built from all of it: every lap you put in belongs to you.
Looking back over the last year —
For swimmers who are already comfortable in the water and ready for the next step before joining a competitive team.
Not beginner lessons. Swimmers should already be able to swim independently. These sessions are designed for athletes preparing for the competitive environment.
